International Vision

WelcomeVelkommen! Bienvenue! Vítáme tĕ! Bienvenido! Welcome!  It’s not by chance that over 2,000 international students are currently studying in our institutions of higher learning, having chosen to invest their educational future here. Or that more foreign-owned companies have selected this area to locate and invest in their growth than any other place in Iowa.

There’s a unique, welcoming spirit here. One that embraces cultural diversity and the opportunities that global relationships offer.

Iowa’s Creative Corridor extends across borders and oceans. With companies represented by more than a dozen countries and an educational system that is well-connected around the globe, our vision is international.

That vision has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), having designated Iowa City as the third City of Literature, joining the prestigious cities of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Melbourne, Australia.

The Corridor – enriched and inspired by the world.

Welcoming International Residents

KingsleyIn 2014, the City of Iowa City was named an International Welcoming City (part of Welcoming America).

This  nationwide program supports locally-driven efforts to create more welcoming, globally-friendly environments that maximize  opportunities for economic growth and cultural vitality and position communities as globally competitive, 21st century leaders.

Iowa City’s cultural diversity enriches our community and following the designation, an International Welcoming Consortium was formed to coordinate welcoming efforts throughout the entire Iowa City area.  Partners include the University of Iowa, the Downtown District, ICAD Group, the Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce, Pearson,  the City of Iowa City and members of our international community.
